Is it a reliable motor or should I just walk away?

You should run away, but not because of the engine :P

My brother had a Jetta GLI VR6, and the torque from that little motor was awesome. However, that said, I'd personally run from that riced over poser car.

Hmm I just need something to last me through the winter. Sell those stupid rims and get some steelies.

Remember, a person who modifies a car like a ricer is very likely to have been treated like a ricer. The 12v VR6 (which is what that would have) isn't nearly as maintenance-heavy(or powerful) as the 24V in later MkIVs, but even a VW that's been treated well can be a bit of risk, let alone one driven by a 2 Fast 2 Furious tribute band.

I'm guessing you're saying the same as the other two or the exact opposite. Kinda lost.

You present a valid point. This isn't meant to be something permanent. Just something that'll last me til spring.

You'd be amazed at what a VW can manage to break in that period of time :p Especially since that car should cost around twice as much as he's asking, which just screams "something wrong".

I was thinking the same. Thanks for your assistance so now I shall move on. There is this Acura I'm looking at but you wanna talk riced out. Unfortunately some reason I love it. It's somewhat tastefully done.

No problem! As much as I love my VWs (I've got a 24v VR6 GTI), some of them just ain't right :P That Acura isn't the worst thing in the world, but you don't exactly want racing harnesses for road use. Budget wise, and this pains me to say so, a Honda (or Acura, same thing) is probably your best bet, though.

But it's soooo GREEN!! Honestly I was ok with it right until I saw the headliner. That's what sent my hope off the cliff.

My iPhone 5C is green. But I would abandon it if it started needing costly repairs. Run.

Without those wheels and the tails, the Vr6 is a great engine to work on.
